Boiler Repairs Leicester
Boiler broken?
Let's get it sorted.
No heating, no hot water, losing pressure or staring at a fault code? Try our 60-second boiler check or book a local Heat engineer.
Our guided check covers the straightforward things you can safely look at yourself. If it needs an engineer, we'll tell you when to stop.
60-second boiler help
Check the simple stuff before you pay for a visit.
Answer a few simple questions. We'll guide you through basic homeowner checks and tell you when it's time to stop and get a Gas Safe engineer involved.
First — safety
Can you smell gas, or is a carbon monoxide alarm sounding?
If yes, don't continue troubleshooting the boiler.
Don't troubleshoot the boiler.
Open doors and windows. Avoid naked flames and don't operate electrical switches. Turn the gas off at the meter if it is safe to do so and leave the property if necessary.
Contact the National Gas Emergency Service.
0800 111 999Question 1
What's gone wrong?
Choose the closest match. You don't need to diagnose it yourself.
Water leak
Is water actively leaking from the boiler or nearby pipework?
Don't remove the boiler casing or attempt to tighten anything inside the appliance.
Question 2
Does the boiler have power?
Is the display illuminated or are there normal lights showing?
Check the simple power supply first.
Check whether the normal boiler switch or fused spur has simply been switched off and whether the property otherwise has power.
Don't remove covers, replace electrical parts or open the boiler. We're only checking whether its normal external supply has been switched off.
Has that brought the boiler back?
If restoring the normal power supply has brought it back on and everything is operating normally, you may not need a repair visit.
Question 3
What pressure is showing?
Look at the pressure gauge or display while the heating system is cool.
Low pressure can stop a boiler operating.
On many sealed systems, around 1–1.5 bar when cool is normal. Filling methods vary between boilers, so your manufacturer's instructions take priority.
Only use the normal homeowner filling procedure described by the manufacturer. Don't remove the casing or improvise if you're unsure.
Pressure check
After using the normal filling procedure, did it return to normal?
We'd rather investigate why that's happening.
Don't keep adding water to the system. If the pressure is unusually high, rises significantly when the heating operates or repeatedly becomes high, the cause needs checking.
Question 4
Are the heating controls asking for heat?
Check that the heating is on and the room thermostat is set above the current room temperature.
Try a clear heating demand.
Set the heating to on and temporarily set the room thermostat above the current room temperature. Give the system a moment to respond.
Quick water check
Does a cold tap have normal running water?
If the property has lost its incoming water supply, the problem may not be the boiler.
This may not be a boiler fault.
If there is no normal incoming cold water supply, resolve that supply problem first. Once the water supply is restored, check the boiler again.
Question 5
Is there a fault code on the display?
Enter exactly what you can see. For example, EA, EA 227, E9 224 or another combination.
Fault code
We've recorded the code.
We won't tell you to remove the boiler casing, test gas components or replace a part from a code alone. If the boiler remains locked out, proper fault-finding is the next step.
Final safe check
Do you know the normal reset procedure for this boiler?
Reset procedures vary. Only use the normal reset control described in the user instructions for your exact boiler.
One reset
Did one normal reset clear the problem?
If the same fault returns, don't keep repeatedly resetting the boiler.
Looks like you've got it going.
If the boiler is now operating normally, there's no reason to book an engineer just because you've used this tool.
If the same issue returns — particularly repeated pressure loss or repeated lockouts — we'd recommend getting the cause investigated.
Time for an engineer.
You've reached the point where we'd stop the homeowner checks and properly investigate the boiler or heating system.
Heat Boiler Help provides basic homeowner checks only. It does not diagnose gas appliances or replace an inspection by a Gas Safe registered engineer. Never remove the boiler casing or work on gas, combustion or internal electrical components.
Boiler problems
Most breakdowns start with one of these.
You don't need to diagnose the boiler yourself. Tell us what you've noticed and we'll take it from there.
No heating
Boiler appears to be on, but the radiators aren't getting warm.
No hot water
Heating may still work, but there's no hot water at the taps.
Won't fire
The boiler isn't starting when heating or hot water is requested.
Losing pressure
You keep topping the pressure up, only for it to fall again.
Leaking water
Water is appearing around the boiler or heating system.
Fault code
The boiler display is showing a code and won't operate normally.
Strange noises
Banging, rattling, whistling or another noise that wasn't there before.
Controls
Boiler seems okay, but the thermostat, programmer or heating controls aren't.
Boiler repair
Diagnose first. Repair second.
A fault code tells us where to start. It doesn't automatically tell us which component to replace.
Tell us the symptoms
Boiler make, model, fault code and what you've noticed are all useful.
Engineer diagnosis
We investigate the actual cause rather than simply guessing from the display code.
Explain what we've found
If parts or further work are needed, we'll explain the problem and next step.
Repair & test
Once repaired, the boiler and relevant operation are checked before we're finished.
Worcester Bosch
We know Worcester boilers particularly well.
Heat Leicester is a Worcester Bosch accredited business and our engineers have extensive experience working with Worcester boilers.
That includes older Worcester models as well as more recent Greenstar boilers. If you've got a Worcester displaying a fault code, tell us the exact code and model when you book.
We aren't limited to Worcester Bosch. We work on a range of domestic gas boilers commonly found in Leicester homes.
Repair or replace?
A broken boiler doesn't automatically need replacing.
Whether repair makes sense depends on the fault, age and condition of the boiler, parts availability and the likely repair cost.
If a sensible repair gets it going, we'll tell you.
There's no point replacing a serviceable boiler simply because it has developed one repairable fault.
If the sums stop making sense, we'll explain why.
If age, condition, repair cost or parts availability make replacement worth considering, we'll explain the options rather than pretending another repair is always the answer.
