Types of central heating system boilers

Choose the right central heating system is very important and should be done by qualified heating engineer who can help you decide on the right boiler.

There are several different types of central heating system which include heat only boiler sometimes you take refer to as a regular boiler, combi boilers sometimes referred to as a combination boiler and system boilers. Natural gas boilers come in two types non-condensing and condensing, all new boilers are condensing boilers.

Heat only boilers

A heat only boiler sometimes referred to as a regular boiler doesn't heat the hot water directly and requires a hot water cylinder usually in the airing cupboard. It also requires additional components like central heating pump and motorised valves.

Combi boiler

A Combi boiler also sometimes referred to as a combination boiler and is a central heating system where the hot water is directly heated through the boiler. This type of system doesn't require any hot water cylinder or any cold water storage tanks in the loft. It doesn't require any additional components as everything is inside the combi boiler.

System boiler

A system boiler is a boiler that doesn't require any cold water storage tanks in the loft but doesn't heat the hot water directly and does need a hot water cylinder. This type of system also needs some additional components in the airing cupboard like motorised valves.
